A life lived.

In 1952 a plane carrying Ted de Stratford and his parents came down over the Omgama Plains central Africa. After a prolonged search the bodies of his parents were found however, there was no sign of young Ted.
10 long years passed with Ted presumed dead, when in the very wet summer of '62 Ted was discovered by anthropologist Dr Vernon Excaliber Grant Mitchell, living with a herd of Wildebeest.
After a major legal tussle with the African authorities who wanted to place de Stratford in a zoo, Dr Mitchell finally returned home triumphant with the young Ted who became after some rehabilitation, his ward.
To this day, Ted de Stratford celebrates the good Doctor's life (deceased 2001 aged 105) by returning to Africa to join the yearly migration of thousands of Wildebeest, some of whom Ted knows personally.

Belonged? That sounds stupid. The truth of the matter is that when I saw it, it didn’t belong to anyone - not me, not you and certainly not to Mrs Maynard. How could it? Mrs Maynard was dead and she had no further use for it so, it certainly didn’t belong to her. No, if it belonged to anyone then it had to be to the tall, thin, miserable man in the black suit. The man who had come to take her away.

All these though… Continue

The Eye of the Beholder (From 'HardTown Stories' by tds)

The Eye of the Beholder.

There was never any doubt in my mind, none at all. As far as I was concerned, Sheba Lee was the most beautiful woman in the world. She was a Goddess. She exhaled gold dust and whatever she touched she consecrated. Her natural odour made my nose twitch with delight for up to three days after she had passed and I could have made love to her shadow. I would have paid good money to have her hair woven into cloth and made into the best suit I ever had. She was the sun, the m… Continue

A Beacon to us All (From 'Hardtown Stories' by tds)

When the angels opened the box that contained the body parts that would make Jaycee a recognisable human being, they must have been drunk. Either that or one of them had told a joke of such hilarious proportions that their concentration had wandered from the Conveyor Belt of Life and instead of fitting Jaycee together in an acceptable fashion, they had giggled uncontrollably and thereby botched the job. Whatever the reason, there was no doubt that with Jaycee, there had been...mistakes. Let me p… Continue
